A Throwback to Get Me Through This Hump Day

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I feel like I’m having a long week.

I’ve been promoting Thursday like crazy, on top of my typical Friday and Saturday gigs, as well as working on a new AC Lounge mix (not to mention the long overdue Face-Off Pt. 5). Meanwhile, I’ve somehow found the time to still go to school after work and have time to eat every now and then.

Anyway…

Sometimes the best remedy for the humps is some good tunes. This is one of those songs….

Jocelyn Enriquez - Do You Miss Me (Freestyle Mix)

discogs.com

Jocelyn Enriquez holds the distinction of being the first Filipino American to make it in the mainstream music industry. Dubbed as the new “Queen of Freestyle,” Enriquez was the first artist to be signed by Classified Records, a Filipino-owned recording company when it was established in 1993. When Enriquez’s first single became a success, larger recording companies began to take notice. Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Jocelyn Enriquez is the daughter of Filipino parents from Manila and the province of Pangasinan. By late April 1997, Enriquez’s first single “Do You Miss Me?” had placed 49th on the Billboard Top 100 singles chart, 7th in Singapore, and among the top 20 in Canada. Then she had the hit song, “A Little Bit of Ecstasy”. By August 1997. every day in New York City, one could hear “Do You Miss Me?” or “A Little Bit of Ecstasy”.

World Tour 2009 Update!

GLOW Bangkok

What’s up folks!

If you recall from a previous post, I am trying to put together a tour of Asia + Sydney for January 2009 with Rich N Creamy.

Right now I’m working on Bangkok venues and I’m proud to announce the first confirmed club on the world tour, GLOW.

glowbkk.com

Glow, The boutique nightclub in Bangkok. We created an intimate nightlife experience with the highest level of personalized service.

Glow offers a unique option to the Bangkok scene as the club seamlessly transforms itself from an elegant lounge to a high-energy nightclub in the later hours.

Glow is a boutique nightclub with a maximum capacity of 250 party people. But don’t let its size fool you. Glow is a sanctuary for all things precious. Multi levels, elegant daybeds, spectacular bars, multi coloured led and laser lighting all around, high class mixologists and the best party atmosphere.

2 bars on each floor will dazzle you with the enormous selection of premium liquors, wines and cocktails. Beyond the decor, the venue attracts a new breed of clientele - one accustomed to the highest level of personal service.

I personally can’t wait to spin in Thailand, and this is the first step of many :)

I’ll update you the moment I confirm other venues for the World Tour. Until then, keep dancing!

DJ SG is on Facebook!

Lately I’ve been playing around with Facebook more - so naturally I created a “DJ SG” page where users can be fans.

Currently 27 fans strong! Woo hoo!

And apparently I have a fan in the Wales network. Go figure.

Those Caipirinhas I Swear

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Caipirinhas are the shit!

Let me tell you about caipirinhas.

You essentially crush 4 lime wedges in a small cocktail glass, with about 3 tablespoons of sugar. You then fill the glass with ice. Then pour in alcohol to the top of the glass. Pour the contents into a shaker and shake it up, and put it back in the cocktail glass. Add straw and drink.

Apparently it’s the national Brazilian drink and it’s amazing. The sugar and lime pretty much drown out all the taste of rum, so the buzz really surprises you later on.

I’ve had a number of friends underestimate the power of the caipirinha already.

Rich N Creamy, for one, took four at once. He doesn’t remember half his night after that.

My roommate Woodcock nearly gotten into a fight with a Filipino chick after the club thanks to a night of caipirinha-drinkin’.

Anyway, this Thursday they’re *free* all night long. You’re welcome to come try one or two (or 4!).

Some baile funk for you:

“Kobe, How Does My Ass Taste?”

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Oh Shaq, there you go again….

While out and about in New York, Shaquille O’Neal decided to grab the microphone at a night club and freestyle… mostly to rap about Kobe. After watching the YouTube video… I honestly don’t know what to say. I was sure the media was blowing it out of proportion when the news broke, but then after listening to the freestyle, I was like “Ohhhhhhh daaaammmmnnnnn,” like a schoolyard fight was about to break out.

See for yourself:

World Tour!?

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Every now and then I get asked, “What are your plans as a DJ?,” and 95% of the time I always reply, “I just want DJing to allow me to see the world.”

With me finally graduating from college (4 years later than expected!!) and re-evaluating my life, it seems like the perfect time to try to plan something of this nature. So with the help of Rich N Creamy, I’m planning a Winter ‘09 World Tour…

Here’s the tentative trek:

World Tour?

Finally I Know Who My Candidate Is

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

So I present to you “Vote Obama.”

Can’t say I want to see a Obama-Clinton ticket, but all good. Long as we boot anything to do with the current administration and start fresh, I’m good!

DJ SG Live from JellyRadio.com (Recap)

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

So let’s recap the night, shall we?

  • After 5 years of DJing, I still get nervous as hell. Really wish I took a swig of the vodka.. speaking of which….
  • Richie brings the party wherever he goes (invite him to your next barbecue).
  • When you see Teknikscian’s arm raise up in the glass window and his hand open and closes… that means I should throw an instrumental into the mix so the team can talk about relevant things like my t-shirt.
  • I need me one of them Instant Replay machines.
  • Apparently DJ Sixx is now DJ Mark Cena. And he plays house.
  • A lot of people listen to JellyRadio.com from all over the nation.
  • My mic was too low for anyone to hear me.
  • All in all it was a freakin’ awesome time and I can’t wait to do it again (next week? wink wink). If you missed the show, it’s currently posted on the Table Talk Tuesday podcast (click here). Or you can listen/download from the JellyRadio website when they post it from the Downloads section (look for the 6/2/08 broadcast, of course).

If you want more of that hilarious banter you heard from Teknikscian, he’s on my blogroll. And make sure you tune into Table Talk Tuesdays (7PM PST)!

Arnel Pineda Kills It on “Separate Ways”

    Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Filipino dude sounds like Steve Perry!

I’ve already made it clear my love for Journey, but I don’t think I’d said enough about f’n Arnel Pineda. It’s surreal that you can go from obscurity to singing for your idolized rock band thanks to the miracle of YouTube. Who knew?
